In the Clearing

We walked there together

I had prepared

We were both excited

He thought he was taking me

We were taking each other

He led me to the clearing

Because he knew the way

The large rock

Had a top like a table

I lay across it

He stood with his face in shadow

He was no more my husband

Than I was his wife
